Dr. Ernest Kwesi Ennin is the Executive Chairman of Media Excel Productions and the former Regional Chairman of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) for the Greater Accra Region. Born on 22 June 1971 in Accra to Mr. Charles William Ennin and Madam Margaret Arhinful, Kwesi hails from Breman Asikuma in the Central Region. He holds an O Level certificate and a diploma in Music Management.
A multifaceted professional, Kwesi Ennin is a music producer, songwriter, artiste manager, set designer, event planner, and music consultant. With extensive experience in both Europe and Africa, he is highly respected for his expertise in event planning. He is fluent in English, Ga, Fante, Hausa, and Ewe. Kwesi is married to Mrs. Ida Ennin, and they have two children: Samuel Kofi Ennin and Charlotte Ewurakua Ennin.
Under Kwesi’s leadership, Media Excel has nurtured and promoted numerous gospel musicians in Ghana, including Stella Dugan, Georgia Adjei, Piesie Esther, Gifty Osei, Becca, Praye, Cecilia Marfo, Supt Kofi Sarpong, and Bernice Offei, among others.
During his tenure as MUSIGA Chairman for the Greater Accra Region, he collaborated with President Diana Hopeson to elevate the union, spearheading initiatives like the ECOWAS Border Float and FIM Workshops. His dynamic leadership also led to the establishment of Ghana’s first gospel musicians’ association (UGMA).
Kwesi Ennin has played a crucial role in advancing the gospel music industry, advocating for musicians to formalise contracts and pushing for equal pay between gospel and secular artistes. He has also championed gospel musicians as corporate ambassadors, securing corporate sponsorships and establishing awards that recognise the genre’s excellence.
Currently, Kwesi serves as the Technical Director for MUSIGA, where he is developing a financial credit model in partnership with Midland Financial Services. This initiative will allow musicians, studio engineers, and event organisers to access collateral-free loans to fund their projects. Additionally, he manages copyright matters for Mobile Content Ghana Ltd., helping musicians benefit from download services with significant financial returns.
Kwesi has been a member of the Ghana Music Awards selection committee since its inception and is an academy voting member for the Ghana Industry Gospel Music Awards. He also serves as a judge for the reality TV show Soul Search, organised by Global Media Alliance.
In the coming years, Kwesi plans to visit 10 African countries to explore marketing and distribution opportunities for Ghanaian music. His commitment to quality technical production and his expertise make him a sought-after figure in Ghana’s entertainment industry, especially in gospel music.
At the 2011 Ghana Gospel Industry Awards, organised by Adom FM, Kwesi and Media Excel Productions were voted Best Record Label/Executive Producer of the Year. Media Excel is also a member of the BEMA African Music Promotion Council and Sheer Music Publishing Council in South Africa. Kwesi Ennin currently serves on the board of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation.
Currently, Dr Kwesi Ennin is a board member and head of productions for Ghana Music Awards UK. When it comes to events, he has organised prestigious ones such as the Bliss on the Hills Festival in Kwahu Abetifi, the Black History Concert in Canada, was a team member for the Inaugural Ceremony of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (2016), team member of Ohemaa Mercy’s Tehillah Experience, and the Highlife Festival: Ready to Perform, a show developed to celebrate the rich highlife music of Ghana and beyond.
